ramblings

do you ever get frustrated when it feels like nothing ever turns out the way you expected?  or the way you planned?  or the way you prepared?

it sure feels like this happens a lot to me and it seems like these unexpected things happen one right after another.  you know...when it rains, it pours.

like for example, this morning was frustrating.  jonah wakes up with a fever and a runny nose.  he then proceeds to take a 45 minute nap, not allowing me ample time to check blogs and shower and play a round of mario kart with scott.  so then i'm kicking myself for not taking a shower first.  so then jonah is ornery when he wakes up because he hasn't napped long enough and he is sick.  so then i listen to a whiny baby for another two hours and there's nothing i can do about it.  so then i finally get to put him back down for a nap and he wakes up ten minutes later because of circumstances beyond my control.  but luckily, he goes back to sleep.  so then i get to do my hair...but i'm having a very bad hair day.  and i can't wear my hair down because i didn't get to wash it this morning and it looks absolutely hideous in a ponytail.  so then i go to get dressed and all my clothes feel really uncomfortable.  and then i can't get my shoe on! seriously?  i can't get my shoe on.  frustrating.

but then.....

i get a very good-news text from my dad about a family member we're worried about.  and all those things seem really stupid and petty.

i think the key to enduring to the end is telling yourself that those good little moments outweigh all the tiny crappy stuff.  like, does it seriously matter in the grand scheme of things if i couldn't get my shoe on?  i mean, i eventually got it on but it was just frustrating because all these other frustrating things were happening.  it doesn't really matter anymore because my grandpa will be okay for now and that's a much greater blessing than not being able to get my shoe on is a burden.

so my goal for today is to look for the Lord's hand in my life.  yeah i might be having a bad hair day, but at least i have a family i love.

we'll see how this goes, though, because jonah just woke up from another 45 minute nap....

I am sorry Jonah is sick and that you are having a bad day but so happy for the news we got. I hope Jonah feels better soon so you can get your shower.
