jonah, lately

 jonah's first fishy.  he wouldn't touch it.

so i should probably do an update on this crazy kid of ours.  he makes us laugh everyday with his antics and he also makes us want to pull our hair out with his tantrums.

his quirks:

-he loves cars more than any kid i have ever known in my life.  they are his life, his air, his sanity, his comfort, his comedy, and so on.  he is obsessed and we're trying to wean him away towards other things.
-i think he has some obsessive tendencies.  he constantly puts things in lines, like cleaning supplies at grandma's house yesterday, his cookies and cheerios today, and his cars every day.  he's always lining everything up.  he also has to have the same toys in his bed when he goes to sleep: his elmo, his stuffed giraffe, his Lightning McQueen car, his Doc Hudson car, his Sheriff car (all from the movie Cars), and one other matchbox car, but that one can change from night to night.

-other obsessions include: buzz & woody (his name for toy story); hot chocolate milk (just chocolate milk); elmo, ernie, big bird, and super grover; mickey mouse; dinosaur train; his new red shoes (red converse low-tops); his tractor shirt, his racing car shirt, his bear shirt, his lion shirt, his thomas the train shirt, his skeleton jacket, his skateboard shirt, and his blue pants; "making trains" (building train tracks); "go dog go," "goodnight moon," "there's a wocket in my pocket," "cat in the hat," "my monster mama loves me so," his tractor book, and "the wide-mouthed frog."

-he loves music.  he can pretty much sing "twinkle, twinkle, little star."  and he fills in the words for "i am a child of god" and "jesus wants me for a sunbeam."  his most favorite song, though, is "one day" by matisyahu.  he walks around the house singing "...waiting for! one day! one day! one day!"  and he gets the right notes too.  it's one of my favorite things when he sings.
-he throws nasty tantrums.  when we doesn't get something he wants, he sometimes sobs for ten minutes.  it's pretty rare, but he knows what he wants and he doesn't give up very easily.
-he is extremely opinionated.  like i said, he knows what he wants.

-he thrives on sleep.  when we first moved, he was still getting acclimated to the place and wasn't sleeping very well because of all the places we had to go and things we had to get done.  he was an absolute terror and i thought i was going to blow a gasket at any minute.  then i realized he was probably over-tired and that fixed the whole issue.  he has been like this since day one.  so if i've ever turned you down for an activity because jonah had to nap, please understand.  we both suffer for days unless he gets a good nap and a good night's rest.

his smarts:

-this kid remembers everything.  he knows all our family members' names (which is a lot), their nicknames, their dogs' names, and where their houses are.  he even remembers some of my and scott's aunts', uncles', and cousins' names.  one time, my sister lauren babysat him and they watched the incredibles.  now everytime he goes to their house he says "crebles, crebles, watch it!"  he also remembers the date that aunt brookie took him on.  they went to the aquarium and now every time he sees a penguin, he says, "brookie, penguins, jump in water."  he remembers the penguins jumping in the water and this was like two months ago.  also every time we drive by trax, he says "brookie, jonah, ride on train."
-he can count to ten and we're working on getting to twenty.  he can identify numbers 1, 2, 3, and 4.
-he knows the following shapes: square, circle, triangle, rectangle, oval, star, octagon, and moon.
-he can tell you that he's two and he tries to hold up two fingers, but he can actually only hold up all five at the same time.
-he knows most of his colors.
-this is pretty funny, but he knows the name of the statue on top of the temples.  he calls him "hainjaroni."  it's actually angel moroni.  he also knows who president monson is and during conference he'd say "present monson!" every time he saw him.

funny things:
-when he identifies something correctly he'll say the thing and then say "right!"  so if he sees a blue car, he'll say, "blue car!  right!" before i can tell him he's right.  he knows he is correct and likes to encourage himself.  it is pretty funny.

-watch out what you say to him because he'll remember it, especially if you laugh after he repeats it.  one day we were driving to get scott from work and i saw a billboard that say "oh my heck!"  so i thought it would be funny to teach jonah that phrase.  i said, "jonah, say oh my heck!" and he said, "oh my sh**!"  it really took me by surprise and i thought it was just a fluke, but he kept saying it over and over and really emphasizing the T at the end.  i swear on my life that neither scott nor i have ever said that word in front of him, so if you have, you need to come clean.  i tried so hard not to laugh at him, but i couldn't help it and now he says it all the time because usually people laugh at him.  i really think it was a coincidence because people don't use that phrase anyway.  it was just funny that he replaced one (fake) swear word for another.  we're working on getting him to say different words with that phrase and we fake laugh really hard every time he says a new one.  aunt kelli taught him "oh mylanta!" and he thinks it's pretty funny.
-when he calls scott by his first name instead of daddy, he calls him "soggy."  everyone calls scott scottie, and he can't say scottie.  he also sometimes calls himself "jonah soggy russow!"

anyway, that was a lot to get through, but i really just want to remember everything about jonah right now.  the more i write, the more i think of to write.  he is smart, funny, opinionated, passionate, and strong-willed.  personally, i think those are all good characteristics.  he's going to go places, and i'm not just saying that because i'm his mom.
