jonah turns the big 0-1

that's right folks, king of the russell family, the ruler of our domain is now one!

i know it's cliche, but i really can't believe it.  i almost cry every time i think about it because i keep forgetting what he was like when he was brand new, three months, six months, nine months, etc.  i have a very bad memory.

here are some things about jonah you might not know:

age: one and one week
weight:  23 lbs. 3 oz. (50th percentile)
height:  29 inches (40th percentile)
nicknames:  j-man, jonah brother (after the jonas brothers), jonah boy, jo-jo, joje
favorite food:  seriously anything he can get his hands on or anything we put in his mouth except for french-cut frozen green beans (cooked obviously)
favorite toy:  doesn't really have a preference and would rather explore the world around him
best talent:  rolling his r's.  i have to get this on video because it is hilarious.  we've been trying to get him to say rojo but we haven't had any luck yet.
favorite word:  rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
favorite activity:  riding in the car now that he has his new carseat.  man that thing was expensive, but totally worth it.  we call it his "throne."  another thing is that i feel like we're a family when we ride in the car.  he was so distant when he faced backwards.
another great talent:  sleeping 12+ hours a night and taking long naps so his mother can actually get things done
funny things he does: fake-smiles. he squints his eyes and shows his big teeth and it is the cutest thing you've ever seen. fake-laughs. fake-cries. he sure knows that crying will allow him to get basically whatever he wants.
yet another great talent:  being the coolest baby in the world

he woke up one day with his hair like this.  we didn't style it like that before he went down for a nap.

scott decided to feed him a reese's peanut butter cup.

we are so lucky to have him as a part of our family.  i spent a lot of time this week thinking about the day he was born and the events leading up to his birth.  we were seriously so naive and had no idea what was in store.  the scariest day of my life was bringing him home from the hospital.  i had spent all my life preparing for and looking forward to that day, but when it came i didn't think i could do it.  the good news is that we made it, and i just hope we can continue to raise him in a manner that won't get any of us killed.

anyway, i hope that when jonah is a grown man (which i can't even imagine right now), he knows we love him more than anything in the world and everything we do is for him. i hope he knows that he is meaningful, and special, and the best thing that ever happened to us.
